Best Galentines Day Guide to spread gal pal love
What is Galentines Day?
Oh, it’s only the best day of the year.
Let the queen + creator of Galentines day, Leslie Knope of Parks + Rec, tell you…
“Every February 13th we leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies. February 14th is about romance, but February 13th, Galentines day, is about celebrating lady friends. It’s wonderful and it should be a national holiday!”
Of course, Parks + Rec is one of the greatest TV shows of all time, and if you don’t like it then you can’t be my friend. Good Day. If you’ve somehow failed to take the time to watch it, here’s your public service announcement that you can stream it on Binge, Stan and Amazone Prime. #hinthint.

Good Day Club’s how to Galentine guide
Dear fabulous women of the world (and by that, we mean anyone who is female-identifying),
Galentines Day is such a wonderful celebration of female friendship and love, that we feel compelled to offer our guide to how best to celebrate the important and often life-changing friendships we have with lady pals. Leslie Knope’s role in Parks + Rec is one of a super-strong, smart, compassionate and awesome woman whose lady friendships could arguably be the biggest loves of her life (sorry Ben).
So, get your gal pals together and throw a wee shindig. Here’s our five step guide.
“I am big enough to admit that I am often inspired by myself.” – Leslie Knope
“You know my code: hoes before bros. Uteruses before duderuses…Ovaries before brovaries.” – Leslie Knope
Grab your gal pals together in person if you can, video conference if you can’t (it’s better than nothing.
But don’t do what Leslie did in season 6 (episode 17), where she secretly rated her lady friends to try and replace her bestie Anne who moved to Michigan in season 5.
Smacks of the beginnings of Facebook which is YUK, and all pals are wonderful. No rating system.
“Do it. Fierce. Power.” – Leslie Knope

“We need to remember what’s important in life: friends, waffles, work. Or waffles, friends, work. Doesn’t matter, but work is third.” – Leslie Knope
Waffles and friends first, forever. And why not create a delicious brunch with our Potato Gem waffles recipe ☝. Leslie would definitely top with whipped cream from a can, and we wholeheartedly support this.
“I care. I care a lot. It’s kinda my thing.”– Leslie Knope
Other Leslie-inspired gift ideas that your gals will love:
- A bouquet of hand-crocheted flower pens
- A mosaic portrait made from the crushed bottles of their favourite soda
- A needlepoint pillow with their face on it and the lead headline from a newspaper on the day they were born
- A personalised 5,000-word essay of why your friends are all so awesome.
“I’m gonna get drunk and then I’m gonna order a three-course meal where each course is made of dessert.” – Leslie Knope
It’s simple; have fun with your best ladies. Celebrate how important, special and fun those friendships are. However you do it, it’s the intent of hyping lady love that’s the important bit. Truly, you can celebrate it however you like; get a bottle of wine and drink it in your local park, dance your asses off into the night, go paragliding or watch Parks + Rec together!

Ideally, we’d give each and every one of you opalescent tree sharks a hand-croched flower pen, a mosaic portrait made from the crushed bottles of your favourite soda AND a personalised 5,000-word essay of why you’re all so awesome. But unfortunately the logistics of such an undertaking during a global pandemic are a little out of the question, but you understand how much we love you, right?!
