When a group of our very favourite wedding vendors decided they wanted to give a wedding away to a colourful, interesting, non-traditional couple, we jumped on board because who doesn’t want to be part of such fun? The entries flew in from ace people from all over Victoria – but ultimately, Frank + Scout – two non-binary folks (pro-nouns them/they) – were a pair of ace rad legends with a love for rad floral shirts and all things outrageous and over the top, so they were a perfect fit for the wedding vendors who wanted to throw them a wedding!

THE BRIEF

Unlike most weddings and events, there was no brief from the couple – instead the vendors came up with a dream wedding for them and executed it in secret – Frank + Scout knew very little about what was taking place and how it would look, but the secretive nature of it meant they got to be super surprised on the day.

The part they had the most say in was their outfits – we told them to go big, bright and colourful, and they sure delivered with their perfectly mismatched floral shirts and super ace shoes.

CEREMONY

The ceremony was a gorgeous, colourful, bold affair – with the backdrop our LOVE neon sign – and a spectacular dried + painted floral install from Kim of Make It Beautiful.

Otherwise, the wedding ceremony styling was quite minimalist and simple – our pale blue Pete Benches for guests, some of the venues pastel plynths and a bunch of disco balls, because why the heck not? Fidel + Sarah – the adorable acoustic duo you all need at your weddings – brought the atmosphere and Precious Celebrations married them, YAY! Naturally, there was confetti cannons.

RECEPTION

With just eight guests, Frank + Scout were pretty much eloping – so the reception was a super intimate affair with a beautifully set table by the wonderful ladies from Curated Events. Fat and Skinny catering fed the group and even though it was a small affair, it was super fun – there was an impromptu cake fight, one of their guests rollerskated (Frank + Scout play Roller Derby #legends) and of course there was dancing – which culminated in a gold streamer cannon making the photos even more fun!

THE SET UP

Small Talk Events Space in Abbotsford is a dream venue. The perfect mix of old + new that we love and that is our personal trademark here at Good Day Rentals. It’s beautiful old warehouse vibes, including rad windows and beautiful natural light, exposed brick, but with modern, thoughtful finishes in a contemporary palette. Curated Events styled the event to let the venue do a lot of the heavy lifting, making use of the cute spaces on offer around the place. With just a few select furnishings and some bold accents in the way of amazing florals, the venue came to life, especially when the wonderful marry-ers and their loved ones turned up. We always say – work with your venue not against it – whatever you add to it, make sure it’s complementing what’s already there, gelling and working to create more loveliness.
