Retro Australiana x Palm Springs wedding inspiration

PINK CLIFFS STYLED SHOOT

Pink Cliffs, Heathcote

If you’ve been to Pink Cliffs in Heathcote, you’ll already know it’s a radical, enchanting place, with it’s sandy low hills – many of them pink – and tall trees. I immediately felt like it was reminiscent of Palm Springs – but an Australiana version, thanks to the gum trees rather than Palms. There’s a distinct lack of amazing mic-century modern homes at Pink Cliffs, but otherwise, same same!

Anywho, as soon as I spied this location I knew I must get a rad team together and do a Palm Springs inspired mid-century modern wedding shoot.

CEREMONY

Using the pink cliffs as the backdrop, we created a ‘wedding’ ceremony for our couple Amy + Nick. Amy + Nick are in fact already married to one another, but they agreed to get ‘married’ again, just for fun this time.

Pink was ALWAYS going to feature heavily because, pink cliffs! The beautiful wide open blue skies also became inspiration for the colour palette, and with the time of year – August – the bright yellow wattle tied up the palette, making it a happy, sunny pastel palette.

Keeping it fairly simple, we furnished it with our Dusty Springfield lounge chairs, scalloped planter box filled with natives thanks to Good Grace and Humour, a custom hot pink sign from Fox and Hart, and a sky blue persian rug.

PORTRAITS

When developing the concept for this photoshoot, Good Grace and Humour was very enthusiastic about creating a giant floral walking stick (seen in the portraits below). I was all for it, but suggested that a floral walking stick might NOT be the best marketing term, so we called it a staff.

Of course there are a billion places for portraits – as you can see, it’s a dream location.

RECEPTION

Haven’t you always wanted to have your wedding ceremony next to a sandy hill? YOU HAVE! Well here’s the inspiration for you.

With a wattle ‘lamp’ shining on the reception table, we paired this with mid-century modern chairs in serenity and mushroom pink, pastel tableware and blue tinted acrylic place cards. Lots more wattle on the table added a gorgeous natural and bright touch, while the catering was simply delicious and also looked the bomb!

This table setting is one of my very favourites – the beautiful mid-century table and glassware including buttery bone handled cutlery, harlequin coupes,  lemon striped napkins, and the super modern acrulic place cards – the best mix of old and new.

Next level styling is all about the details – details maketh the design. In this design, you can see that our lovely bride’s headpiece is just amazing, her nails are yellow to match the palette.

Our grooms yellow floral tie is so subtle but perfect and his blue suit is just the right shade. Amy’s Emily Green earrings are another contemporary touch that blend the old and new to create such a unique look and feel.

CAKE CAKE CAKE!

Miss Lady Bird Cakes really smashed it out of the park for this wedding cake – she HAND cut the pattern into the fondant – to create a look reminiscent of iconic decorative brick walls of that mid-century modern era.

Dessert lounge

At Good Day Club, we love a dessert lounge. What could be better than doing some lux lounging while sipping a champagne AND eating delicious desserts? WHAT I ASK YOU.

Using our record player phone charger as a coffee slash dessert table, and styling with the giant floral staff, the setting is a feast for the eyes and heart.

Details

All the details came together beautifully – perfect stationery from September Creative, a crystal crown, beautiful handmade jewellery from e.g.et.al – plus many more.
