Confused to cute! Makeup-up studio glow-up
Maddy used our Jazz Up Your Space service. It’s a 90min session in your space to plan out and get your space how you want it. I helped Maddy get her vision in order, plan out what to do to the space, choose colours and products, and armed her with the confidence to get the space ready.

The gorgeous and talented Maddy of Madeleine Stewart Makeup sent up the Bat Signal for help creating her dream home makeup studio, after a few attempts of her own had left her stressed, confused and further away from her dream vision.

Before
Maddy is fabulously creative with her work and her life (you should see how rad her wedding was), so it would make sense that she could and would create her dream makeup studio at her home. She tried a few things in the large, but weirdly sized space, but they left her feeling unconvinced, and further from what she was trying to achieve. But what was the vision? It’s hard to know when we live in such a saturated social media and internet landscape, where we have access to a literal billion looks, aethetics, and ideas. Makes things easier, right? Actually, it often makes choices much harder and overwhelm everpresent.

With a few key pieces of devine furniture, (look at the oversized custom pink dressing table with its own curtain, bless!), Maddy had also collected a bunch of pieces that while lovely on their own, wheren’t fitting together well. And while the multi-colour scheme she hand painted was executed well, it made the space feel overwhelming. Plus the saturated colours messed with the light, casting coloured reflections mess with Maddy’s make-up work. No one needs a green shadow cast upon one’s face.

Brief
- Very 70’s vibe
- Vintage
- Functional
- Light/bright
- Not too overwhelming.
As we can see from the ‘before’ photo, the room didn’t match the vision.
After
Maddy created a stand out space, that’s a joy to work in and a delight for her clients.
Pairing things back and removing the excess furniture and accumulated ‘stuff’ (come on, it happens to us all!) was an excellent start. The next step was to neutralise the paint scheme. This didn’t mean no colour though. Hell no. Maddy had previously chosen a very cool 70s wallpaper, for one of the short walls, and we picked orange from the wallpaper to use as a feature, painting the cornice and window frames for added cool and fun. The two long walls were painted in a neutral warm beige, so that Maddy’s makeup work wouldn’t be messed up by colour transfer, with a light pink paint on the opposite wall to the wallpaper, introducing a softer colour to blend the feature pink dressing table into the mix.

The warm beige walls not only created the right canvas for light in this hair and makeup studio, but also the perfect backdrop for Maddy’s excellent and extensive collection of art and wall hangings. She styled them beautifully and they bring so much personality to the space.

It was so lovely to work with Maddy to help her break free of her overwhelm, confused ideas that weren’t working, and a space that wasn’t serving her. And our Jazz Up Your Space service is an accessible design and styling option when you don’t want or need a full design package. A creative whiz like Maddy just needed guidance to drill down on her exact vision (we’re zooming in people! Not out! Get off Pinterest!), a confidence boost, and importantly, a plan to pull it off, which she did beautifully.
So if you’re in need of a rad hair and makeup professional, please check out Maddy’s work – she can glam you up but she is also your lady if you need special effects make-up.
And if you’d like to book your own Jazz Up Your Space session, you can do so online. I truly LOVE helping people get to where they want to go design and styling wise.
